The Legendary Antonio Carlos Jobin & The Inimitable Joanne Brackeen

JoAnne Brackeen

To refer to Joanne Brackeen so simplistically as a jazz pianist is to minimize her contributions to the musical genre. With a career dating back to the late 1960s, when she was the first female member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Brackeen early on shattered barriers for women and broke the mold of what women were expected to accomplish in music and, specifically, in the jazz genre. An innovative composer and respected band leader, Joanne Brackeen played and continues to play a major role in shaping the direction of jazz and piano stylings.

Joanne Brackeen
, now in her early 70s, has shown no sign of slowing or committing to one, predictable musical path. Arkadia Records is proud to count Joanne Brackeen among the talented artists on the Arkadia Jazz Record label. Her new and long-time fans can find and purchase her music at

Her initial recording for Arkadia Jazz, entitled Joanne Brackeen: Pink Elephant Magic earned a Grammy Award nomination and features highly acclaimed artists such as Nicholas Payton, Chris Potter, John Patitucci, and Horacio El Negro Hernandez, with guest appearances by Kurt Elling and Arkadia labelmate Dave Liebman.
