Russia’s Kirov Ballet Company, home of the legendary Pavlova and Nijinsky, is considered today to be among the foremost Ballet Companies in the world. Starting in 1860 in St. Petersburg as the Maryinsky Theatre, they began regular ballet performances in 1880 and gave birth to most of the Petipa and lvanov classics as well as having premiered many of the most important Soviet ballets.
